August 27-September 2, 2012
Plymouth County Fairgrounds, LeMars, Iowa
We will have some incredible participation and entertainment honoring the 100th birthday of Woody Guthrie at our 2012 Festival.
The "International Busking Championship" will require the performance of at least one song written by Woody Guthrie.
There will be a 'free' Woody Guthrie WATERMELON FEAST
On Wednesday of the festival you can enjoy 'free' Woody's Hobo Stew in the rendezvous tipi village
There will be a 'folk-song' songwriting contest. The words 'going down this road' must appear somewhere in the text. This song can be written beforehand and peformed during the competition. All entries must be copyright protected.
The story-telling contest must include 'travel' inspirations similar to the adventures of Woody Guthrie
2012 is also the 100th birth year of Minnie Pearl. Expect lots of fun honoring this greatest of comics from the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, Tennessee. Join us in LeMars!
Be with us as we attempt to create a 'new' world record, by being the largest number of people at one time yelling Minnie's "Hoowwwwwdddeeeeeee" for the loudest and longest for the Guiness Book of World Records. You can be part of that.
ALSO, it's the 100th birth year of Roy Rogers, and we are working on some special events for him as well! And don't forget, Bill Monroe just turned 100.
Watch for a great new show on the One on the Mountain Stage. It will be a "Special Music of the Day" program, every day from 7pm-8:30pm with a menu of performers made up at the festival, and then posted around the grounds.
Watch for THREE brand-new jamming areas especially for smaller groups.
