Description:

From 10,000 Crestonians 4th of July Celebration Website:

The 10,000 Crestonians Fourth of July Committee welcomes you to Creston, a community located in the beautiful rolling hillsides of Southwest Iowa. Thousands of people from across the country will attend the festivities that promises delight for both the young and the young at heart. Creston began as a railroad town in 1868. It was built on the summit or "crest" of the prairie and was the high point of the Burlington Railroad between the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. In the late 1800's the railroad's machine shops, division station and roundhouse were built. The roundhouse was of such great size that it was the second largest in the United States. The depot built during that time has been restored by the City of Creston and is now used as a City Hall and senior center. Also present in the restored Depot is a working model train display and a presidential doll collection. Creston retains and takes pride in its railroad heritage. The community, however, has grown far beyond an agricultural and railroad town. It is an enterprising city where country charm and modern lifestyle go hand in hand. Today Creston serves as the regional hub of business, education, medicine, industry and recreation for a large portion of south central and Southwest Iowa in addition to being the county seat of Union County. Come discover and enjoy the hospitality and activities that await you in Creston during the 4th of July Celebration and any time during the year. The citizens of Creston are proud of their community and look forward to sharing it with you.
